InchCape Offshore Wind Farm
Brief
InchCape Offshore Wind are developing a 1.1GW windfarm development off the east coast of Scotland. This project is at a very early stage and the time had come to gear up and link in with the rest of the offshore wind supply chain. We were asked to create a film which would primarily be used to engage with potential suppliers during a two day event, where the themes of wind and the opportunity ahead for Scotland needed to run through it. It all starts here.
Preproduction
Preproduction is a key part of any film, and one with many messages to deliver in a short space of time definitely sees the benefit of going through the first stage of production. With a client script in hand, we looked at finding a music choice on brief - nothing too dramatic for this one, but that would sit with the audience's attention as they were welcomed to an event they all had high hopes for. Music is always the first part of our planning, so with that in place we looked at linking two subtle themes together - Scottishness and Wind.
Production
Filming this project relied on capturing a few fundamental elements; the constructions at Wallsend and Cockenzie, the office in Edinburgh, the ports at Leith & Montrose and most importantly the people involved. The key part that linked together Scotland and the Wind; our bagpiper.
We had three weeks to arrange permissions and access, be there at the right time to match activity on site and hope for the best with the UK climate. A 5am start at Montrose Port Authority an unlikely highlight as despite being a very busy port facility it was incredibly peaceful.
Postproduction
With preproduction agreed, footage in the can and stock secured we got into the edit with a hard deadline at the front of our minds. We added our cinematic grades and went for a letterboxed format for the footage; although we love it we don’t always produce films this way but for the right productions it gives the film a very different feel. The wind segments linked together very well and with a couple of rounds of revisions the film was signed off, packaged up and ready for use at the event.
Results
InchCape Offshore Wind were delighted with the results, with a key film to set the tone for two days of successful interaction with their supply chain. One of the main results came a few weeks later, when we were chatting to people at Global Offshore Wind who mentioned the way that the event had opened and how impactful opening with a film had been; later in the conversations it transpired that it was this one. For a company like ours to be involved in the renewable energy story it’s fantastic to see our work appreciated in this way.
